Licensed Mental Health Counselor · Westchester County, NY

There is a version of you that isn't stuck. Let's find it.

Many people arrive in therapy with considerable self-awareness — they understand their patterns, they've done the reading, perhaps they've tried other approaches. Insight is a valuable starting point. What comes next is where the real work begins.

Committed people who are ready to do more than talk.

My most effective work happens with individuals who come prepared to engage honestly — with the process and with themselves. Many have already pursued therapy in some form, whether traditional talk therapy, CBT, or DBT, and found it valuable but incomplete. They are looking for something more direct, more challenging, and more attuned to who they actually are.

I hold a fundamental belief that every person is capable of meaningful change. My role is not simply to reflect that back — it is to help you locate that capacity within yourself, often before you can feel it, and to work alongside you until you can.

Warmth and humor are part of how I work. So is honesty. If something isn't serving you, I will say so. That directness, offered with care, is often what moves things forward.

Willing to show up consistently and engage with the work, even when it is uncomfortable
Open to honest feedback and direct challenge in a supportive environment
Prepared to examine their own role in the patterns they want to change
Able to hold both seriousness of purpose and lightness when the moment calls for it
Ready to take the next right step, even when it is the most difficult one

"I don't follow a script. I follow you. Every session is shaped by what you need in that room, in that moment — not by a protocol."

— Sarah J. Sowards, LMHC

Clinical expertise. A genuinely human approach.

I am a licensed mental health counselor practicing throughout New York State via telehealth. My approach is integrative — meaning I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities and allow the needs of each client and each session to guide which tools are most useful.

I trained in EMDR because of its proven effectiveness for trauma and its capacity to produce meaningful change efficiently. I incorporate CBT, DBT, IFS, somatic approaches, and mindfulness practices as each situation warrants. No two clients are treated the same way, because no two people are.

I also believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is a central instrument of change. That means I bring genuine presence to the work — direct, warm, and willing to engage authentically. I see my clients as whole people with real potential, and I hold that belief on their behalf until they are able to hold it themselves.
